The Utah Judicial Conduct Commission has recommended that a judge be removed from the bench because he is a polygamist.
Judge Walter Steed, who serves in the polygamous border town of Hildale, is legally married to one woman but considers himself spiritually married to two others, and he has 32 children. Steed is a member of the reclusive Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which dominates Hildale and Colorado City, Ariz.
Question: with that many kids and wives, wouldn't he be conflicted out on over half the cases anyway? I mean, it's not that big a place:
The twin communities of Hildale, Utah and Colorado City, Arizona are located on the eastern side of Washington County on the Utah/Arizona border. These towns were established by a fundamentalist group that practices polygamy. The town has been raided by the government twice - in 1941 and 1953 but has been left alone by the government and peaceful in recent years. Despite a rift and split in the church itself which divided the community - which employs a conservative dress and lifestyle, it seems to be thriving with a population of around 4000.
