Cedar Pundit has some good insight on the antibullying legislation. I suspect this is nothing more than feel-good election-year legislation. It duplicates the existing zero-tolerance and code of conduct language already in place in Iowa schools. If there are gaps in those rules, why focus merely on bullying? Why not require a blanket violence intervention policy? Then enforce the rules to the extent that the administration is able, and for the rest, well,
like Governor Vilsack I had to stand up to a bully or two myself. We all had to, governor. It's time to move on.
